Not speaking?

Im not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I dont really know why this happened and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. So basically my life for the past couple of days has been really stressful, overwhelming, and anxiety inducing. And today while I was getting ready for dinner I just felt the need to not speak, so thats what I did. I didnt speak for about three hours. I could have if I needed to, but I just did not want to speak. I texted one of my friends who has the same thing happen to her sometimes and she said it happens to her when shes feeling overwhelmed. I then googled stuff about going nonverbal, but found that most of the search results are about autism in children (I know that Im not autistic and Im not a child.) If anyone knows anything about this or has had any firsthand experience dealing with it, could you help me figure out whats going on?

Perhaps it is just being sad to the point of Silence. being silent perhaps can just let things flow by and you just observe without verbally talking. I have never actually experienced this before but I can definitely see it happening to me. Where everything can potentially be overwhelming at times so you just go quiet for a little bit. Perhaps almost like a defense mechanism. I sincerely hope that you feel better and things will get better for you as time goes on. I'm very sorry to know that you are feeling so down right now. Much love and prayer to you.

@SlytherinQueen16 I am a very outgoing ham, but I've noticed that when I'm uncomfortable or overwhelmed, the first thing to go is my ability to communicate. I'll just go completely mute. It sucks because then I can't communicate what's wrong. Even something as simple as a mild backache will shut me up for hours, when normally I'd be talking nonstop. I like to tell people, the quickest way to know something isn't right with me is I get quiet. I think it's just because my mind and body are in survival mode, just trying to deal with the situation, and intricate skills like talking (and clear thought, problem solving, etc) just get blown away. Idk if that helps, but you're not alone anyway

Hey! I have definitely had this happen to me, especially when Ive been ignoring stuff that has been bothering me. I have a lot of issues with anxiety, and I typically put things in mental boxes if that makes sense? It helps me get through the day, but if i dont deal with it later or soon enough, it can really backfire because theyll all sort of explode in my head. When that happens, sometimes I get quiet too. I think its just easier to process that way, like you need sometime to half turn off and just absorb everything that happening. I dont know if its the same for you, but thats been my experience. I hope you start tp feel better and things arent too overwhelming :) @SlytherinQueen16
