Not sure where to go....

I don't know if this is the right place to post this and I actually feel so STUPID about this and I wanted to see if anyone has ever gone through the same thing.

It is actually about me having anxiety over a tv show/character. I love this one show so much and I loved this one couple but then one of them left and the other one stayed on the show. Now this other character has a new love interest and I find myself getting anxious over it because I feel like he belongs with the character that left. I know it's so stupid and I do know it's not real but I can't help but get anxiety over it. I do have general anxiety and this is definitely not the only thing that gives me anxiety but this is one thing that gives me anxiety.

I have done things to help myself but I'm wondering if there is more I can do. I got off of social media such as twitter to not hear anything about the show and I try not to watch the show but I do anyways. After the show is over and nothing major happens between this new love interest and my fave character I feel a huge amount of relief. I don't really understand myself and why I get like this and it's really frustrating! When the show is on hiatus I am totally fine but whenever it is on I feel ridiculous for getting anxious.

What I mean by getting anxious is my heart racing, overthinking, and getting really red and blotchy.

Can anyone help? I know this sounds so stupid but I just felt like I needed to talk about it. I have talked about it to some people but they just tell me to get over it. I would be really grateful if someone had any advice.

Thank you!

@LGL86

Can you separate out the character from the actor that plays him? So find out more about the real person, and hopefully you'll be able to care less about the character you're so involved with.

This worked for me when I was younger. If I developed a crush on a character, I found watching them be themselves rather than the role they played, would often burst my bubble! Gosh, that's a confession and a half, but at least you can see you're not the only one that gets involved in stuff you know isn't real. Still easy to get sucked in though!

@BestIcanbe hi, thank you so much for your reply! Yes I can definitely separate the actor from the character. I know it's all not real I just got way too attached. I have also watched some of his other work which helps. I will definitely try and find out more about the real person. Thank you for replying to me. I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who's gone through this.

The only thing ''stupid'' about this post is the amount of times you used the word stupid. Seriously, you have nothing to be embarassed about. It happens to the best of us. Over involvement/obsession with tv series or in specific characters isn't stupid. It just shows that the series/character is really good. What I would do, well, as the person above me stated, find out more about the actor playing the role. Maybe find something you don't like about them, and when you feel anxiety because of the character's decisions you can remind yourself of that. Other than that, deep breathing when you feel anxiety arising, maybe meditating or exercising for a bit and then going back to watching your series.

@Cheeney hi! Thank you for your advice. I just felt like maybe I was the only person who felt like this so I felt a little silly about it but I see that I'm not alone. I actually watched it the other day but then I distracted myself right after watching something funny and getting my mind off of it. Again thank you very much! :)

@LGL86 I understand you felt silly and thought you were the only one, it's not something people normally openly discuss so it's difficult to guess if it happens to other people too. Great job in distracting yourself!smiley
