Overthinking relationship issues
Hello, I've been dealing with a lot of anxiety and overthinking in my new relationship. I seem to be having a lot of trust issues with my partner and it seems like it's due to past trauma . I went through a divorce a few year back it was an abusive relationship in every way. I never healed from it because I never got therapy or any type of help and it now seems to be affecting me years later . I'm at a loss idk what to do anymore. 😥
@lis09 That sounds like a stressful experience but it's a positive you're aware your feelings of anxiety come from negative experiences in the past that resulted in trauma in that you can use that knowledge and self-awareness to focus on being happy. I'm proud of you for no longer being in the abusive relationship although it's expected that the scars from it would remain even after some time has passed. It's alright to be unsure what to do and take time to think about it.
Something that helps me work through my trust issues and anxiety is to try to have empathy when I'm spiraling and comfort myself with a plan for what to do even if the worst case scenario happens. There are many options at your disposal though and it's deeply personal what works best for each person. While I'm not sure what kind of advice you're seeking, what i can reassure you is that you're already doing the right thing by seeking out support. There are many resources on this website and others about trust issues including different people sharing how they overcame trust issues you could look into. It takes time to work through trust issues and learn to trust again so it's alright to be patient with yourself.
I get that! I do the same thing. I have been with my boyfriend a year and sometimes I still break down having anxiety. I had to go on medication for anxiety for 6 months and now I am getting off. And I was worried about that too! Last night I woke up in the middle of the night crying because I was scared my boyfriend and I would break up.
But my boyfriend is there for me. I have to tell him sometimes what I need. But he at least responds. And as long your new significant other helps support you through it…they are a keeper.
