Random Acts of Kindness
My growth path activity this morning was to watch a video called Random Acts of Kindness. It looks like it was a project put together my some high schoolers. Prior to watching the video I had started my day a little sour, stressed and irritated. I'm frustrated with someone who is not interacting with me very well. And then I watched the video, and just felt..hope, I guess.
Hope that there are people out there doing nice things for others. Hope that things can get better, a little at a time.
So, even though this person I'm frustrated with is acting in a way I don't like, I don't have to respond the same way. I can be me, the same person, and maybe a little kinder. And maybe that will just make them feel a little better.
@thoughtfulmomma I recently performed my first-ever random act of kindness for a complete stranger, and I had no idea how great it would make me feel. A mom I'd just met noticed my homemade necklace (I'm a bit eccentric) - a glass vial filled with sparkly glitter. She wistfully commented that she has a story she tells her daughters about fairy dust, and she wished there was a place she could buy a similar necklace. I knew I had the supplies at home, and it wouldn't take long at all to put them together. She wrote her daughter's names and their favorite colors on a card, and I came home and made the necklaces, and even wrapped them up in cute little boxes. I must have asked myself a hundred times why I was doing all of this for someone I'd met so briefly!
When I brought them to her, though, her appreciation was so extreme it felt transformative for me. I honestly don't think she ever expected to see me again! I had left my contact info in a note with the gifts, and she messaged to let me know how thrilled her girls were. I think I smiled for three days. I had definitely never done any act of kindness quite that random, but I know now I would absolutely do it again. It makes sense that what you watched had an impact on you; my little project was more profound than I could have ever anticipated.
Thanks for sharing, and for letting me share my story. Love and light to you!
