Romantic Partner Separation Anxiety

Does anyone experience this or has experienced this? I have a wonderful boyfriend--i am 24, him 25. Together for 6 years, both well educated. I have had issues with feeling unloved my entire life. He loves me, he is a good supportive, understadning partner. Whenever i am away from him, i feel a debiliating anxiety. I do not focus on school, work, even chores at home. I hardly eat, and often throw up. It causes issues and arguments in the relatioshop we should never have.

I have the exact same problem and am going through the same thing right now. It's hard because sometimes he decides he just doesnt want to deal with me and ignores me all together and it makes everything worse.

@UnderratedMooseI have the exact same problem. My wife is am emotionally unavailable person. It's usually the role the male plays in a marriage. If your partner is too, the more you Express the need for affection the more they will pull back. It's a self-feeding disaster.

Yes! This happens to me and I can't stand it! frown

My boyfriend and I had an argument a week and a half ago and he said he didn't want to talk to me for a while and has ended up blocking me on everything except whattsapp because how bad I get. I can't help myself but to spam him with loads of messages begging him to talk to me; which he never answers, or I just sit watching to see if he goes online and freaking out that he might be talking to someone else to replace me. I also end up shaking so bad I can't cook (It's my job) or I'd end up hurting myself, hours of crying and very low mood and pessimism. I also struggle to sleep for a couple of hours or more and when I do I end up having nightmares. I also struggle to eat and end up losing weight (not that that's a bad thing, I am very overweight.)

@Katana1066 I have the same chain of reaction behaviors too. It is a horrible feeling to be so out of control. Also, when I'm doing all of that I know it is counter protective while I am doing it!

I haven't thought of a solution yet when in that moment of emotional panic. I tried calling a friend once it helped but needs a friend available on demand.my therapist is trying to help me identify the underlying issues to avoid the paralyzing panic attacks. I am sorry you have to go through those nightmares I believe it is as close as one can come to living hell in the mind.

I hope you can find a way out. Try to remember others are out there too, like me, and you are not alone, it will pass. I know it isnt great advice but it's the best I have right now!

Also this helps. My therapist told me to think of emotional unavailablity as an emotional handicap. They are protecting themselves from some trauma they have had in their lives. It is not about you Just like you wouldn't freak out when a person in a wheelchair wont walk up stairs for you, we shouldn't freak out about this handicap. They literally are UNABLE to do it

This helps me be more empathetic to my wife when the emotional storm hits minimizing the risk of me getting angry. Sadly, doesnt help much with my own personal lonliness suffering in that moment though.
