Sometimes, I wonder if friendship drama is worth it....

Recently, Ive run into some drama in my friends. For context, we are all classmates in a tough graduate program and weve been study buddies and friends for about 3 years. On Friday, we had a pretty tough exam where I (barely) passed and they failed and they started attacking me cause they think I had extra information on what was on the exam from another classmate who took the same test earlier. That classmate did call me to talk about the test but I noticed that everything she was telling me to pay attention when I study, was the same information that was posted on a class wide group chat. So I didnt repeat it to anyone and now, they think I both had all the questions beforehand and that I didnt pass it on to them and thays why I passed and they failed. I tried to explain that I didnt know anything that no one else knew going in, but got a lot of angry texts of how Im a liar and Im just lying about everything. Im kind of hurt that none of them even bothered to ask me anything but just jumped straight into attacking me and that they seriously would think that I would do something like that. But then they dont seem to really care what I have to say.

Im hoping to actually talk to them Monday after class and hopefully hash it out but Im a crazy over thinker and I hate confrontations so Im super anxious about it. Like I would like to work this out, but I also feel like if they think Im just going to lie about everything then I have no idea what I could say to even smooth this over. Just wanna vent about it, and I dont wanna keep rehashing it with my family and not involved friends haha. Anyone have any tips for awkward, nerve wracking talks? 😬

@xueli Something that helps me is going to the talk knowing what you want to say. This doesn't have to be specific, it can just be something broad. Ask yourself: are you going to be defending yourself or explaining yourself? If you feel like you'll be defending yourself, chances are you'll be on edge the entire time. You can get distracted and overwhelmed easily this way. Staying calm and being as respectful as possible can help you focus on explaining what happened. You could also ask your friends not to interrupt so that you can say all that you need to say. Another helpful thing to do is be aware of their body language.

You can let them know you're nervous about confronting them, and that you're hurt that they just jumped to conclusion, and if their body language gets more defensive, try rewording what your saying. It's really hard to confront the people you care about, especially when you've always thought they care about you too. Take a deep breath before you talk. If they're still angry when you're done explaining, give them a few more days or even a week to calm down. If it seems like they still won't let up on their assumptions, let go of them. You don't need people making unjust assumptions about you in your life. This will be an incredibly hard thing to go through if it comes to that. Feel free to message me if you need more support smiley Best of luck
