Struggling Today

I am struggling today. My anxiety is screaming at me, and it's all coming from my brain. It's all what my brain conjures - negative, of course. Always negative. I'm always coming up with all the bad things, all the what ifs...

Literally, nothing - that I know of - is happening. But my mind makes me go to the bad things that could happen. Seriously, I'm just sitting here at my desk working, and the brain says "the world is on fire!" Even though it's not.

I'm exhausted.

I am sorry to hear you are struggling. Everyone experiences periods like this once in a while. When my mind gets stuck in negative thoughts then I try to distract myself by doing things that lighten my mood like watching a movie or photos of moments when I was on holiday etc. I try not to have too much time when I am not doing anything active because then I also tend to ruminate on thoughts.

Yes - I try to keep as busy as possible because then it doesn't give my brain time to think. But there's a fine line between getting burned out from doing too much and getting burned out from thinking too much. I'm thinking I still need to do more, and jump into other activities.

You have a good point! Balance is also very important. It might be necessary to be attentive to what our body is telling us to prevent burnout and choose activities that make us feel refreshed.

I really like this technique for keeping anxiety under control: https://www.psychologytoday.com/intl/blog/the-well-being-toolkit/202211/how-get-unstuck-the-stories-trap-you.

You can also try some of these techniques from CBT to challenge negative thoughts: https://positivepsychology.com/cbt-cognitive-behavioral-therapy-techniques-worksheets/.

Personally, I found them very helpful :)
