Therapists
My mum made an appointment for me with a therapist for my anxiety. Thus will be my first time going to one. I am really nervous about it. Can anyone tell me what it's like going to a therapist for the first time?

I've never been to a therapist before, so I don't know what it would be like. But i definitely here you on the nervous part- I would be really nervous on my first time to therapy too. I wouldn't know what to expect either, or what would be going on. It can definitely be scary going to someplace new and trying out a new thing. However you're strong, and you can do this :D I believe in you!
I see a therapist and she has made a huge difference in my life. My first two visits were spent developing a rapport between us as the foundation of a good working relationship. You kind of get to know each other a bit so that you feel comfortable with each other. You don't have to discuss anything you're uncomfortable talking about. You go at your pace, which you set. If you are uncomfortable with a certain therapist you can certainly ask to see another one.
Seeing a therapist is an important step in healing oneself. I believe and hope that it will be a good experience for you.

Hi Zebra,
I have been to a few therapists and couselors over the years. Your first visit is like an introduction for you to the therapist. They will ask you about your life and what you struggle with. I remember my most recent therapist asked me to talk about my childhood and how I felt about my parents, because that is often a source of pain for people. Like Gene said, you don't have to answer questions you don't want to. Also, if the therapist says something you don't agree with, you are allowed to say so. So for instance, if your therapist says, "It seems like you feel angry," and that is not the case, you might say, "I don't feel angry; I actually feel sad." You can also ask any question of the therapist that you want.
I know it's scary to start something like this, and so I am sending you all the bravery I have to spare! I hope it goes really really well.

I certainly understand why you are nervous, when I went to my first every therapy session, I was also very nervous - and I went because of social anxiety, so you can imagine it was not a pleasant experience. You are not alone in that respect! Despite the fact that I was nervous about the session, it went very well as did all my other sessions after that. For sure, your sessions will also go just as well :)
Hi there. I have been to therapy a couple of times with different therapists and it really varies from one psychologist to the other.
Can totally relate to the being nervous part. I still get nervous if I have to enter my therapists room, even after my first session. But, it feels great during it and after it's over.
I see it as taking a bath during winters- 'difficult to get in, but it sucks to come out.'
Hope you had a lovely session today! <3
