This is why I'm scared of men
I was at a social place for ppl with anxiety and other mental illnesses today, and I must make it clear that this is not the first time this has happend. But these two guys/men began acting really angrily/violently towards each other, pissing the other off. And them getting angry is scaring the hell out of me. One threw a bat for ping-pong through the room.
THIS is exactly why I don't like being around guys at all. I'm so scared of them getting angry, and me getting... well, I don't really know what would happen to me, but I'm just getting scared as hell. When they act like that it triggers me in the worst way possible, and I just wanna cry my eyes out, bc it gets me sooo scared 😞😭
Stay calm and be brave
@Goodturtle77 Easier said than done though.
Good things take time
I totally understand! You are not alone! I too get scared when men get loud! If you ever need to talk just message me! I’m here!
@calmWishes2119 I'm glad I'm not alone! I'm scared of men in general, but it just gets worse if they are loud or aggressive. I don't trust any man at all. They will have to earn my trust. I trust maybe one man outside of my family, and I only trust those in my family I am bound to by blood. Men from the outside is not something I trust at all. I wish I wasn't so scared of them though, but I don't know what to do to be honest.
But that social place was at has now made new groups, and I don't have to be in group with those aggressive ones again. Makes me feel a little better, I guess.
It’s hard to have something like that be a trigger. I am scared of both men and women. Raising voices, heightened emotions such as anger or sadness, crying, jumping up, slamming doors, throwing things, etc. are all triggers for me. You’ll find a lot of people here tell you to just be brave and work through it. Not good advice, at least not at the beginning. In therapy with a good therapist, I learned to experience it in small doses meaning if it was too much for me, I left the room no matter the situation. I gathered myself in the bathroom. Grounded myself and practiced breathing exercises while away from my triggers. Then I slowly learned how to breathe and ground myself while in the presence of my triggers (this took 6 years). COVID has kinda screwed all of this up. I’d recommend therapy if you can afford it. While I really enjoy 7cups (I love my growth path and my new therapist on here), there is a lot of really, really bad advise given on these threads and if you have any form of social anxiety sometimes these threads can make things worse. I wish you the best of luck on your journey through anxiety and hope you know that you are not alone!
@akay06 I'm really glad you are writing this, bc I thought some of the advice given was bad too. I can't just "be brave and work through it" at this point, if I'm honest. But I really need to learn just to leave the room, when ppl act like that, bc atm. I just freeze and get a panic attack. But I should maybe talk about this with my therapist. Maybe she can help me. I am talking to her on tuesday, so I will talk about it with her. Maybe she has some pointers for me.
Once again thank you for pointing out bad advice!
@TheMadHatterWasHere it is ok to feel that way, it is best to trust your gut when you feel unsafe
