Travel Anxiety

I am traveling out of state to visit with family for Easter and I feel so out of sorts. All I can think about is what ifs. What if I have a panic attack and they think i’m crazy, what if my anxiety gets so bad I can’t act normal? Anyone have tips for travel anxiety?

I see your mind was really caught in those “what if” thoughts around the trip, especially worrying about having a panic attack in front of others, that can feel really overwhelming.I hope the trip went well for you, or that you were able to find some moments of ease during the trip.

@kp4rra I'm terribly sorry to hear you're struggling with this. I've had some similar problems. Focus on your coping mechanisms. Deep breathing is amazing, and there's also many free meditation apps and YouTube videos that can help soothe anxiety. Anxiety is very normal. Did you know that over 300 million people worldwide have some form of anxiety? So remember that you're not alone, and that you have a huge support system here for you. ❤️

@kp4rra    That sounds really overwhelming, especially with all those “what if” thoughts before traveling. For anxiety, some people find it helps to focus on slow breathing, keeping distractions like music or podcasts, and reminding themselves that panic symptoms pass even if they feel scary.

Hi @kp4rra,

I'm sorry to hear that you're travel anxiety is making it hard to be excited about this trip. I could see how this is a stressful situation for you. One thing that always helps me when I start overthinking is to take a moment and practice deep breathing. I close my eyes and take really big, deep breaths, and count them as I go. If that sounds like it may help, maybe this is something that you could practice in times when you feel yourself thinking about "what ifs". I know it feels overwhelming right now, but I promise it will all be okay. Remember - you're amazing!!
