Waiting on the other shoe to drop
Its a lot. My favorite cat (we have 3) has been diagnosed with bladder cancer, end stage kidney failure and heart issues. Weve been told theres no way to heal her but we might be able to reverse some damage with treatment of the tumor, diet change and hospice care. The cost is insane. But, theres nothing I wouldnt do for her and my husband agrees. We have now had a few financial struggles but nothing that isnt somewhat manageable. On top of all of that, Im in school for my PhD and school has somehow lost me in the system. Idk how that happens... and theyre saying I may not be able to attend next semester. Im between overwhelmed, angry, sad, frustrated and falling apart. I have upped my antidepressant and started taking my as needed anxiety medication on a daily basis. Otherwise, Im a crying, shaking, angry mess. I want to scream or break things. Ive never had a pet live this long and we dont have kids so to us theyre our children. So the grief is hitting hard and Im struggling. Thats my story.
Getting a diagnosis like that for our fur babies is terrible. I've been through it, and there is nothing I can really say to make it any better. I've literally cried in front of vets who were horribly lacking in compassion and were just worried about the money.
One suggestion I can make is to get Care Credit. It's a credit card that will let you pay over time, interest free. First, check to see if your vet accepts it. Care Credit saved me at a time where I had thousands in vet bills due to surgeries. (If not for CC and the surgery, I would have lost a least 10 additional years with one of my cats!)

Lately everything feels like it should been falling apart in my life too.... things I thought were secure and constant just aren't anymore.
So something I've been doing is trying to change my perspective. I can't control the things going wrong. But I can look at it differently. Theres a quote I read the other day that I saved. "Celebrate the hard stuff too." For example, your pet has brought you SO much joy in your life. Maybe now is the time to reflect on that and be so grateful for the years you've had.

It's a scary thing to know you can't control some things. I'm learning that this year as my son becomes more independent. I have struggled with the "loss" I feel not being able to do all the things I used to do for/with him (like drive him to places - he has his license now). Things change, whether we like it or not. It's a matter of how we react to those changes - and sometimes it takes us a while to learn how to react positively to them. I'm trying to change with those changes...but it's hard!

Growth "pains" are real! Lol
