Why me? Then, why not me? Why anybody?
Thinking about it, even when I was a little kid, I was always, anxious, shy, nervous, basically not confident. Now that I’m an adult, I feel it’s worse. It’s ok for kids to be shy and nervous, but adults who are nervous are looked at as weird. I’m constantly anxious and worried, even though nothing bad is happening. Not that I would want anything bad to happen, but if it did, part of me might be relieved, as I would be able to tell myself, I knew it / I’m not crazy. Sometimes I think I’m going to lose it and have a breakdown.
I know how that feels. I'm 25 but I feel like I'm a teenager or a kid because sometimes I can't manage my emotions or my anxiety. It's gotten to the point where I hate being around certain people in my life because it makes me so anxious and I get mad because I just want to be alone. But since I'm an adult whenever I take the time away from them or say no to hanging out I feel bad for being antisocial. It feels immature but I know I'm not mentally stable.
Sorry to hear about the struggle. You are not alone. I would say focus on your strengths. What parts of yourself do you admire, what things have you done that you are proud of? They don't have to be big things. I was a quiet kid but I still remember in 5th grade I'm proud that I called it a kid who was bullying another kid. I like that memory of me. Try but to be hard on yourself. If you want to get over the anxiety, then build up some confidence. You can start by pretending. Imagine yourself as strong, powerful and others as non-threatening. I used to hear a trick to public speaking was to imagine the audience without clothes. This really does help with emotions and nerves. The second part is experience. The more social situations you experience the more you learn how to be successful in them. If you know how to be successful in something, there's no need for anxiety about it. And success is defined by you. I hope you don't mind me sharing my 2 cents. I know how hard it is to have a lot of anxiety. Wishing you lots of success and happiness in the future.
