Will I always be anxious?

I have social and generalized anxiety. I have been on meds for a few years and in therapy for longer. I initially made some progress in therapy but over time I have been feeling worse and worse. Especially after lock down I feel like I have lost pretty much all of my progress. I just don’t know what to do and feel so burnt out and frustrated. I have trouble doing things I used to be able to do and it’s embarrassing how anxious I am running errands. I just want to go out and feel safe and comfortable, and I’m starting to just wonder if this is what I will always be like.

I think you should continue seeing your therapist. Or maybe talk to someone who you trust. It is nice to have your voice heard even though it can be very challenging.

Many people’s mental health became worse during the lockdown. Like you my mental health also got worse during the lockdown. I felt so isolated at that time. I can’t really go anywhere fearing I might get sick. Supermarket shelves are completely empty. It seems like a zombie apocalypse. It is simply not a great time for anyone.

You can get better, but it would be a long and hard process. Please don’t give up.

I have GAD too as well as several other anxiety disorders.

My doctor tells me it will be with me for life and I can only adjust to it.

I hope your prognosis is better.

Hi friend!

I suggest you continuing seeing your therapist as well and reaching out to those who love you. It is important to know that you are not alone and your voice in valued!

Mental health struggles are common and have worsened since the pandemic.

You will get through this. Take it day by day. Be proud of yourself for what even seem like little accomplishments!

Best,

Haley

As someone who also developed anxiety during the pandemic, I can understand where you are coming from. You may have been told this before but, you are really brave and strong to have done what you have so far and for such a long time. I believe you will overcome this tough time, and everybody here at 7Cups is rooting for you. It may look like you have lost your progress but in reality, when you try again this time, you will have a little more understanding of your anxiety and how to fight through it. This means it does get better. Don't give up hope yet!

You could reach out to your therapist again when you feel ready, I'm sure that'll help. Keep at it and don't look back. You've got your back <3
