first relationship anxiety
hi everyone (: i've had pretty bad anxiety all my life, so throughtout school i only worried about getting good grades instead of dating. now, however, i'm 18 and want to start. i'm talking to a boy who i really like, but we met on tinder so we haven't met up yet. we text every day, but i have so much anxiey when it comes to talking to new people that everytime we plan to call i get so much dreadful anxiety. i know i like him but my anxiety says otherwise and it's a struggle to fight through it. does anyone have any advice?

There are a couple suggestions you might try. I always get anxiety too, but I am good at drawing and it puts me in a 'Zen' zone. You might try doing something you like with your hands while talking on the phone with him if you can get ahold of a hands free headset. If you don't like drawing things like clay, silly putty, fidget spinners, floam, or squishy stress balls might help you out. Even things like beading, knitting or cooking are good options to start with. You will have to eventually face the fact that you cannot always resort to your coping mechanisms though and have to face those fears head on. Growing in your relationship and your confidence will help you along. But it is okay at first to start with a crutch to focus your anxiety upon. Be patient you're getting there and we wish you luck!
