struggling
I've had every test known to man done and everything says I'm fine. I don't feel fine.
for several months I've had chronic chest tightness. I feel like I cant take a deep breathe
no matter what the doctors say im terrified im going to stop breathing and die.
I've developed very sudden out-of character phobias, such as leaving home and being stuck
I dont know what to do. can't afford therapy or a psychological aid of any sort because im.off work due to.my awful mental health state.
I feel like I'm drowning
@bestUnicorn4002 I'm not a professional or anything, but I have panic disorder and I relate a lot to what you're describing. Last year I was sure I had some kind of allergy because I would constantly lose my breath. I kept going to the hospital because I felt like my airways were closing, and they kept telling me nothing was wrong. It made me feel like I was going crazy. I was actually experiencing symptoms of panic disorder, but the doctors kept saying I was fine because I wasn't physically suffocating (they kept showing me that my blood oxygen levels were fine, etc.) I wanted to scream at them because I was so scared and they weren't listening to me. It sounds like you might be going through the same thing, but again, I'm not a professional and can't diagnose. I was really stressed at the time, and it sounds like you are as well, which could've brought on some of the more uncharacteristic phobias. Especially during a pandemic, it makes sense that you've developed fears of going outside and breathing badly, since those things are stressful right now. I still deal with panic disorder, but over time I've learned some coping mechanisms that have helped me deal with it. My best advice is whenever you start to have trouble breathing or feel yourself panicking, try your best to distract yourself. Watch a funny video, eat an ice cube or something sour, splash some water on your face, whatever it takes to distract yourself for a second. If you can disrupt the cycle, you can sometimes stop it before it gets to that "drowning/suffocating" feeling, or at least lessen how bad it feels. The earlier you can catch it, the better. I know how awful it is to feel like that, especially when nobody else seems to know what's going on, but there are people out there who have gone through the same thing, and we're rooting for you! <3
