Hey all, I'm new here and my mental health has been taking a very bad toll lately. I have suffered with bad anxiety since I was a little kid.

I believe i may be bipolar as I tick all the boxes for it and I have a big feeling I do not just have anxiety and depression and would like to get checked. How did you figure out you were bipolar? What happened? I know we can't post medical information but i would like to hear other peoples stories as im a little scared of people and confrontational situations.

I look forward to talking to you!

Welcome to the Anxiety Support Forum. I'm glad that you have reached out for help and I hope to continue seeing you around the forums.

I don't have bipolar so I'm not that familiar with the process of getting diagnoised. It does run in the family on my mother's side. So my grandmother and uncle have a severe form of bipolar disorder which forced them both to be on disability most of their lives. My mother was also just recently diagnoised with bipolar although her symptoms aren't as severe as the rest of her family. With my mom, I know she was seeing a psychiatrist to treat her anxiety and depression. After a few sessions together, it was the doctor who suggested my mother ticked all the boxes for it.

I'm not sure how detailed of a response you are looking for but my advice is to seek an appointment with a psychologist or psychiatrist for a diagnosis. They are the best people to confirm if you do tick all the boxes or not. Plus they can help you make a plan moving forward.

Hopefully some more people with first hand expereince can give you a better idea of how the process works.
