Avoidant Personality

When I was younger, I had friends and it seemed easy. It was easier to connect with people and not overthink everything. Somewhere down the line I started overthinking and the shame became to much to bare. Soon enough I thought everything was wrong with me. I only had friends that I talked to at school and text. Once college hit my friends were inviting me every where. I felt overwhelmed. Connecting with people feels heavy. I feel like it’s work, hard work. Maybe it is work but people like it. I’ve never really felt happy with other people. All I can do is judge myself and think that I’m not being a human in the right way.

Hey man, theres nothing wrong with you, you may just be introverted is all. I sometimes also feel like secluding myself from everyone as well. You shouldn’t judge yourself either, you’re great in your own ways man.

I forgot to add a couple of things like on how you might have social anxiety and stuff but don’t take my word I aint a therapist, I hope this helped!

Thank you for validating me. Yeah I think I might have social anxiety. I actually think I might make it more complicated than it is. At work I talk to my coworkers and I do love meeting new people but sometimes I don’t know how to have a conversation and connect. Sometimes it feels like I open my mouth and I can’t talk or my mind goes blank.

How old are you? I have many nieces and nephews with this problem and I think it’s bc the development of social media. Kids today grow up with this technology and no real social interaction. It’s like my dog. He’s a German Shepard and as a puppy he wasn’t trained and kept mostly around the same few people. Now he’s 3 years old and he has major anxiety around random people. He will growl and bark ready to attack! That’s not good, but I never had this kind of dog so I didn’t know they had to really be trained! Everyone needs social interaction. It’s not your fault though. You don’t want to be alone. Learn to have more hobbies than the internet. You will make more friends and have more fun.

Hello. I’m 25 and yes social media does play a role. Sometimes it’s easier to use my phone than to go out there and live life. I didn’t have much social interaction as a kid because my mom was so paranoid and never let us out the house. Even today she’s worried something would happen to me if I go drink with my coworkers. I started working at a school for this same reason to get some exposure therapy and it’s great but I’m starting to realize I want more connection.
