How do I make good friends?

Hi,

I don't have any close friends. I think there are a couple of reasons:

I have social anexity around approaching people and showing my personaity/interests to people or standing out too much.

I am married and my wife also doesn't have a lot of friends. We moved to a new place together for my work, so we spend a lot of time with eachother.

I don't have good social skills, I am not great about doing the "work" required to maintain a friendship.

I don't have any social hobbies and I not sure I have time/motivation to pick one up.

I don't like going to parties or meetups. It feels like everyone is already talking to someone else and I don't want to interrupt them. If you have converstions with someone they are often superficial.

I am introvert, so don't necessarily need a ton of friends, but sometimes I would like to have someone to share everything with.

@affectionatePond5535 friendships are built by frequent contact with others paired with our willingness to be open and vulnerable with them (which the depth of that openness and vulnerability increases with familiarity and closeness). Close friendships take time to cultivate, and the first step is finding people with similar interests/hobbies/beliefs that you have and spending time with them. Being an introvert you don't need to look for connections in loud and overwhelming places like parties, or nightclubs. Instead maybe there are some social circles you're already in that you can be more intentional about cultivating connections with others in, or some activity/hobby you'd like to get into. Perhaps there's a volunteer organization you'd like to join, a book club, an art enthusiast group, trivia night at a local resturant, or a cooking class you and your wife would like to take. What are some steps you're willing to take to open up your social connections?

@affectionatePond5535 a lot of what you said decribes me. I can totally relate to how you feel. I wish I was not like that and I wish I could put in the work to gain and maintain friendships but for some reason I just can't. I only want friends when I want them and to be honest that's not often. When I do want to share I feel bad cause I don't have a bond with anyone

Hi, we can be friends if you want to and share stuff. I have been married 27 years. I will get my listener account back hoping on 3/4 so if you want to we can start chatting away then.
