I feel like I'm missing out on my youth

I've had severe social anxiety for several years now and it has really held me back in enjoying the fun parts of being young. I'm 20 and I'm going to be a junior in university and I haven't made any friends yet and spend all my time alone. I've also never have been in a relationship and haven't even had my first kiss yet which makes me feel like it's never going to happen. I've tried putting myself in social situations multiple times but it seems I'm just not interesting enough/ too quiet for people to want to get to know me. I really feel like I'm wasting my early 20's being lonely and depressed because of anxiety and I just don't know what to do. Does anyone relate?

@Nervermindgirl I relate so much. I used to have social anxiety too, but nowI think Im just shy and bored by everything and everyone. I really feel like I'm missing my life too. I still get a little nervous in some social situations and I find it very hard to connect to people and start conversations. And anyone I do meet bores me or is too complicated. I also spend most of my time alone.

@Nervermindgirl i feel so much for you, please live your youth and do not miss it...i married at 21, with my only physical girlfriend while in college...I missed my youth not because i did not havefriends but i had a difficult life and abusive parents and was too mature abd responsible for my age to live like a real teen...please just make a few friends, it is not hard, i was shy myself and unpopular but managed to have friends. I really really feel sorry for you because noone is going to give you back these years of youth...hugs๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”

I know this feeling all too well. I'm 18 but I can't do what every other 18 year old can do like going out, socialising and getting a job. I find myself getting jelouse of the people I have on Snapchat or any other social media who are happy and having a great time out with friends.

It makes me feel like I'm missing out on so much. I WANT to go out and have fun and make friends but at the same time I get these overwhelming thoughts that something bad could happen. Its not knowing what to expect that has really effected my day to day life.

I haven't been able to get a job because Im uncomfortable and anxious about doing something new and not having a routine for it. Its the fear of not knowing what to expect that makes me anxious. I end up not sleeping because I have to try and guess and plan on what I have to do if I'm having to go to a social event the next day. I need to plan everything out in my head and research what times would be best to be there and what I should say in different scenarios. I usually get myself so worked up over it to the point where I end up canceling the plans because I feel like I'm not in control.

@WillowEden That part is willow this stuff doesn't get easier as you get older sadly. The underlying insecurity is the issue how to overcome that is something I wish I cpuld figure out on my own. I would implore the people in here to consider finding professional help because trying to tough it out of these feelings doesn't work. Im 26 with great friends and I still feel like this.
