My parents are forcing me to do something I'm not ready to do
I'm 19 and I still don't have my license. It makes me panic when I start driving knowing that if I make one wrong move, everything goes wrong. I feel other people making fun of the way I'm driving when I'm going too slow or if I stopped at a stop sign for too long or anything and I get way too nervous and anxious when I drive. I've tried voicing that to my parents every way I can and they still force me to drive. I've tried telling them that forcing someone to do things they're uncomfortable with just isn't right and they don't agree. What do I do?
I understand how you feel. Driving can be very stressful and anxiety provoking, but if not now, when? I encourage you to speak to a listener and talk though your feelings about this issue, because it is important that you get your feelings across in a constructive manner to your parents. Hope everything works out! =)
I can relate completely. But it's one of those things we have to do. The more you practice though the fear lessens and you will feel more confident. I totally understand the fear of messing up, I too was the only one in my family going way too slow. The thing that helped me was telling myself that I will do everything to be careful and follow the rules whatever else happens is not in my control. That helped me in part let go of the fear and just do it. But I do have to remind myself again time to time. I hope it helps a little knowing you are not the only one who feels what you do, but until self driving cars make an appearance we have to do it :/
Agreed. Sometimes there are things we do not want to do but have to. With practice, the anxiety will lessen and it will not longer be a big deal. @Lemontime20
My parents are pushing me to do something I'm not ready to do like cooking, thinking on future, getting super good grades, staying positive and being neat.
@willingNickel8446 I had a lot of fears surrounding driving (mostly because I had been in a bad car accident when I was younger) and I didn't get my license until I was 23. Although driving isn't always a necessity depending on where you live, It is an important skill to have. A lot of the things you mention are a part of being a beginner, but the good news is that it only lasts a little while. The more you drive, the better you get. When I first started driving, I only drove in the early morning or late at night when there were few cars on the road. I still feel a fair amount of anxiety while driving though it's a lot less than when I first started because of my past. I don't know if it ever goes away but for me, it did lessen a lot. I hope you're able to push through this. Hang in there!
