Social Anxiety
I have a form of social anxiety (that's the last thing I was diagnosed with and that was 5 years ago) where I feel overly guilty in social situations. I'm shy around new people, but I also have a lot of issues with paranoia. Lately, I have been having anxiety issues when my husband isn't home or I am left alone for long periods of time. I feel the need to constantly be around people I know otherwise I feel guilty over random things. I know the things I feel guilty over are irrational (ex. I left my apartment dirty when I moved 4 years ago; I owe money on an old credit card bill). I don't know how to make these feelings go away on my own? What are some techniques I could use?
I can't answer phones, buy something, or talk to a stranger without having a panic attack or hyperventilating. And my mother yelling at me because I won't answer the phone doesn't help either.
I can identify with the phone situation. I can't hear it ring thinking its always something negative I'm waiting to hear. What an awful feeling this is.
I can't really answer phones, I can't order my own food, I can't talk to new people, the thought of people staring at me causes me to break down, getting called on at school to answer a question, just stuff like that. I don't like to be the center of attention. I just want to be invisible.
I have the same problem, I'm always afraid to buy something or order something. If I'm the one talking, I'm afraid.
one of the best ways to ignore the feeling of having social anxiety is to always do something kind, just help someone, open the door, and always say thanks to whoever does the same or smile always :), i've had social anxiety and I know how much it sucks but when I do something useful or kind it'll just make everything better
1. Challenge negative thoughts
2. Learn relaxation techniques like breath control
3. Face your fears in a challenge ladder
4. Build stronger relationships
5. Healthy lifestyle
6. CBT
I don't talk with my families and friends because I'm afraid of what they are thinking of me. I have social anxiety since I born and it is starting to get worse as I grow up. I can't share my thoughts to somebody and speak my mind out, especially at school, when I want to stand up to speak in class but I can't. I care about everyone who looking at me, it's bothering me. I avoid eye contacts whenever I talk to someone. It's extremely stress me so much. My friends also ignore me whenever I try talk to them since they think that I'm weak and nerd. But in reality, I'm not. I kind of fierce, strong, friendly inside me. Because I don't act it out and care what other think of me too much, I become a silent person. Seriously, I don't want to continue living this life anymore. It is killing me.

Yes I do get anxious in public situations sometimes. It's hard because everyone has a different idea and thought of you as a person and in a multicultural non perfect world misjudgement isn't an option because racism can destroy hearts forever.
As a psychology major, we have been taught that the best way to cope with matters of this is to practice. For example, you're scared of answering phones- have a family member or a friend call you from another room. Carry on a conversation for two minutes. The next day or week, stand outside of the house and have that friend or family member call you again and have the conversation last longer.
The trick is to practice with those that make you comfortable. Eventually you will be comfortable enough to do it on your own. It takes time and practice, but it's worth it!
