Social Anxiety can be harder than most people think - Getting help.

Hey guys :D I was doing some thinking and after seeing just how many people on here have some form of social anxiety it'd be nice to discuss something.

What is the hardest things about seeking out help for your social anxiety?

What I think when I ponder this question is the fact that although there will be so many places you can go to for help, and different things that can be done; there usually always is one big problem - most of it puts you in a social situation to do so. Think about it, if you have problems with being scared of spiders you wouldn't go ask a spider for help, you'd be too scared to try that, so why is it for most help with social anxiety we have to go and talk to people about it? D: It seems to be a big dilemma as you have to go through a lot of hardship and face your social anxiety and take it head on to be able to even try to get help most of the time, this just makes it way too hard to get help most of the time in my opinion, I'd be glad to hear everyone else's opinion on this :D

@windflowers haha thanks :p it's good to know people are appreciating my threads :p and don't worry darling you don't need to answer the question but you can keep up some discussion :o Think of the thing I said about spiders, you could discuss what you think now after hearing what it could be like for others :o

yeah, i completely agree with what you said. i mean, if you fear spiders, it'd be really hard to approach one anyway, let alone touch/interact with it; i can imagine it'd be the same for people who have social anxiety to approach others and ask for help, because that's the very thing they're afraid of. hm, what i think -- i think it must be incredibly difficult for you to seek help, and though i don't know what it's like for you to be talking online, you're incredibly strong and brave for coming here to seek help :) that's what i think XD

@windflowers hehe see you can contribute :p and yes it really can be hard for people, but on the thing about online, a lot of people with social anxiety can just be more comfortable socially online, but remember we cannot say for everyone ^-^ everyone's experience with social anxiety, and kind they have is different :o

The hardest thing about getting help with social anxiety has to be actually talking to someone that can help. Hard enough to be one-on-one with a someone. Asking for help takes tons of courage.

@TheBreadBoy Yup definitely you have to have a lot of courage and be really brave to face your fears to actually reach out for someone definitely :D

@KeananWillListen it's been my experience that reaching out for help means you've withstood enough of the pain and can't take it anymore lol. so, it's either overcome the fear, or keep living with the pain of it.

@Shanti41 yup, but that doesn't mean you have to go through an absoloute ton of stuff to get to the stage of being able to overcome it :p

@KeananWillListen yeah, of course. everyone's threshold for pain, or rather, their level of how much pain/suffering they can withstand is different. I'm trying to think of the word they use in 12step programs - everyone's "emotional bottom" is different for everyone. but it takes a lot for me personally lately, to ask for help lol. And I've heard/met many who have had to reach to the absolute worst in order to get the courage to ask for help. Unfortunately, so many of us are driven by intense pain in order to learn something or ask for help, but it's my desire we can all learn through joy instead.

When I first asked for help from a teacher, I worried all night long and all day until I finally managed to speak to them. Thankfully they were really kind. I had a panic attack the day before and the teacher noticed, that's why I told them. It was pretty awkward. I just sat and nodded. Then the teacher told other teachers and yeah. I was pulled out to be spoken to about it which wasn't as bad. I just reminded myself that emotions can't kill you and that they would understand what I am going through. smiley

@blossombreathe That's great, and yeah it can eat at us so much it can even induce a panic attack which just really sucks, but I'm proud of you for mustering up the courage to reach out <3 and see it's a lot better now because you've got a bit of support there for you and should be able to have a better time :D

Yes I agree that it's pretty much like a vicious circle. And most of the time we can't seek help because we DON"T WANT to or rather CAN"T step out of that vicious circle, and it becomes a comfort zone.

@WhiteBearClub Oh yes we could explain it like a cycle, we have a lot of fears socially and want to get help for that, then we try to get help then realise it's social, now we are having those fears again and sitll need help. It's really brutal indeed, takes tons of bravery and courage to be able to muster up the strength to be able to actually be reaching out for someone.

its terrifying to talk to people even that I know personally...

its even worse when no one believes youve got social anxiety. My biggest fear is seeking help for such a thing, I can't even raise my hand in class anymore it makes me nervous but im getting past it. Preforming in Plays and Musicals as well as Concerts and public speakings I hope anyone who has Any form of anxiety can recive help.

Its just like this with any other type of anxiety or disorder. People dont know how the others feel when made fun of for something they cant control... its not your fault.... its not anyones fault that you were born and made the way you are. Its just the way life is.

Mental disorders dont lower your value as a human being

@KeananWillListen Omg, thank you SO much for bringing this up, and this has been my issue too but haven't always been consciously aware of it. Talking to a therapist or mentor about my feelings is VERY hard for me, and it's VERY hard for me to speak up how I truly feel because of the fear: fear of being judged, criticized, rejected/not accepted/not liked. For me, this stems from childhood as I was transmitted the message by family members and others, that children should be seen and not heard. Though I think most of them did it unconsciously, and by unconsciously I mean they weren't/aren't aware of the effects their behavior/words have on children even subconscious ones.

@Shanti41 heya, hehe no problem darling :p I bought it up cos I thought of it and it is an actual problem not many consider for some reason, it's a ton harder than just 'oh I'll jsut get help thans for telling me to do that' and yes fear of others opinions is always a thing that makes things so much harder :( *hugs* <3 Hopefully you'll be able to overcome or cope with a lot of that :D
