Social Anxiety impacting therapy
I am pretty sure I have social anxiety. Sadly, I can’t get a diagnosis because it is very severe. I am already 18 but my mother has to come with me to new therapists because I can’t speak meeting them. I struggle getting treatment and really need help, but am unable to due to my inability to speak in therapy. I go to a new therapist and they always tell me I need to speak at least a bit so they can help me, but I jut can’t How should I deal with this? How do you get treated for soial amxiety when you can’t even go to trestment because of it? Has anyone experienced something similar?
Yes, I am having a similar problem as well. I tried seeing a therapist a few years ago but stopped because I have a hard time talking about myself, especially my problems in person and I was expected to talk most of the time. It was slightly easier for me to answer questions but even then most of the time I'd give simple yes or no answers and not elaborate. I've been on a few medications that helped my social anxiety but worsened my depression so I've stopped those. I've even skipped my last follow up appointment with my doctor about the medication I was on and been too afraid to call to reschedule since last September. My advice for something you can try is to write down what you are feeling, like a diary or journal. If you have a particularly bad day or a day you feel like you can really describe how you are feeling just write it down and bring all your notes to your next therapy session and have your therapist read through it.
@aquaPlace2260 I am so sorry you are struggling so much with this. I know they have therapists available through 7 cups that I think you can just message with if that's easier than seeing someone?
For myself I find mindfulness and hypnosis very helpful because I do that at home by myself.
i feel you trust me, i want to see a therapist sooooo bad but I'm too scared. i need to do the first step but i get so nervous only by thinking that
