My entire life I’ve always been different. My family says I’m too much, kids at school always thought I was weird and growing up I was bullied and didnt have many friends. My family was physically abusive when I was a child and has evolved into more of a mental/verbal abuse situation with physical abuse threatened but rarely ever followed through. I have been lonely my entire life and at 24 I don’t know how to have connections. I don’t know how to make friends. I’m just constantly trying to survive every day and I don’t have the money or resources to leave. I love my siblings and I don’t want to lose contact with my family but I also can’t have them in my life and be happy at the same time 😭any advice?

That sounds incredibly hard. Are there people in your life outside of your family that you feel safe enough to share with?

@sociableTurtle9080 I'm sorry you've been going through this.  Are you able to drive?  Sometimes, getting out of the house and just going to something neutral, like a cafe or a park, can help in more ways than one can count!  :)

@sociableTurtle9080I’m really sorry you’re going through so much right now. It’s incredibly hard to feel different, lonely, and stuck in a situation where you don’t feel safe or supported. It’s okay to want distance from family when it’s necessary for your own well-being, and it’s also natural to feel torn because you love your siblings. Finding small ways to build connections outside your family, like joining local groups or online communities where you feel safe, can help you start to create your own support network. Remember, your feelings are valid, and taking care of yourself is important—even if it means setting boundaries with family. You deserve to find happiness and safety, and there are people who want to help you get there.
