Father's Day and Autism
Hi,
I'm an Asperger 33 y.o. woman, with very high functioning caratheristics and a little "gifted" (130+ QI).
I still live with my parents cause my physical and mental health is terrible. I won't tell the whole story here, you just have to know that I live with severe chronic pain (neuropatic, I take like 7 pills a day to keep it DECENT) and a deep depression.
I'm a med student. I was supposed to be a doctor at this point, but my studies slowed down more and more over the years due to the latter.
My father doesn't accept my autism and depression diagnosis and thinks my need and difficulties are just "tantrums" and the diagnosis are just perfect excuses to "being manteined".
I recently found a way to get a little productive, oil painting little canvas and selling them. But for my father is all a waste of time because I should study, not painting, even if I'm very good at it. I explained that the amount of energy and concentration requests is not even comparable, that's why I can't paint for hours but not study consistently. Obviously I'm telling ***.
Today is father's day here.
I don't want to celebrate it because I'm not a hypocrite person. I hate this category of people, with all myself. But the last year I did not celebrate and I explained why, and it went worse. He got more disappointed about me and my mother got sad and agitated. So she suggested me to just say "Happy father's day" once and call it a day, just to not heat a discussion.
But, again, I'm not that kind of person. That's not me. I'm not a kid anymore, I'm a grown *** woman.
It pisses me off to put a mask on my face to be kind to a father that thinks his daughter is a complete failure.
But, at the same time, I'm already mentally exhausted and I don't want discussions that lead nowhere.
What do you think?

I accept you are not a hypocrite 🩵
But I would wish him a happy father's day , not for his sake but for your own peace of mind and to not make your day any harder than it needs to be.
I'm sorry that he doesn't understand or listen to your needs, it's so hard when we are misunderstood or people think they know better 🩵

I'm gonna be honest with you here as an autistic. He's a terrible person, you shouldn't wear a mask that hurts you for the sake of a man who hates you either way. When they tell you to say something nice that you don't honestly believe, tell them "If I said that, I'd be lying" no good parent would punish you for saying that. Don't say nice things that you don't believe to people who don't truely care either way.

Aceptación. No somos perfectos y los padres también son humanos, no son perfectos. 🫶
