Feeling Different.... Could I Be Autistic?

Hi, I’m feeling a bit lost and confused right now, so I wanted to share and maybe get some support.

Lately, I’ve been wondering if I might be autistic. I found a checklist of signs, and many of them fit me, like:

Getting very focused on certain topics

Feeling confused in social situations

Liking routines and getting upset when things change suddenly

Taking things literally and struggling with jokes or sarcasm

Feeling uncomfortable making eye contact (especially with girls)

Talking in a flat or unusual voice sometimes

Feeling like I don’t fit in or understand group conversations

Misunderstanding people or getting told I’m not listening

Struggling to explain my feelings with words

Liking doing the same things daily and having strong habits

Finding it easier to talk through text or online than face-to-face

I don’t know what this means exactly, but it sometimes makes me feel lonely or misunderstood. I want to understand myself better and maybe get help if I need it.

If anyone has advice or just wants to listen, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi there, hope you are well.

I just wanted to say, I hear you, and just wanted to say if you ever wanted to chat further, I’d be more than happy to listen and chip in 😀.

Hello affectionate:

I would say your symptoms do indicate autism or Asperger’s syndrome. I find support groups like this one are helpful for me. I think it is helpful to know that you have a brain that does think a little differently from neurotypicals and that we are not crazy. It helps relieve the feelings that we are odd or incompetent and to be proud of what we have achieved and what we can do well.

Hope that helps. 😊
