I am going to ruminate on this forever
Content warning- trapped animal
I tried to rescue a kitten. It did not work.
I was out for a walk when I heard a kitten meowing in a storm drain. I called the fire department. They couldn't reach it.
I stayed with it till it moved on to some other part of the sewer. I even tried stuffing my coat into the sewer so it could grab on, jangling my earbuds and my keys. Waited for it to come back, tried not to get hit by passing cars. Cat never came returned.
I am feeling this very deeply. It was so little. I managed to get a picture of it. Cried all the way back home. Now I have a horrible migraine.

Hey, Scarf,
I really felt your desperation and grief here that the kitten you tried so hard to save likely didn’t make it. Though there’s a remote possibility it crawled to another end and made an escape? It’s such a horrible feeling to try to hard to save a helpless animal, especially going through such adversity yourself (avoiding oncoming traffic so you wouldn’t get injured yourself), calling rescue crew and them trying and not being successful, offering your jacket. Oh dear. You are a human with a heart, and I’m so glad you exist on the planet, because you care.
I do hope your migraine abates. Inhaling carbon monoxide from passing cars and even the sewer could not possibly be good for you, along with the stress that your attempted rescue involved.
I do hope you know that your heart was in the right place, and that the fact that you tried speaks volumes about your mercy and care.
Kindly,
Patience
