Overstimulated..

I had been doing fine, But within the past month I've started to get overstimulated easier and easier. I live in a loud house with alot of screaming and yelling (My brothers are also on the spectrum and use screaming to communicate ALOT) And now I just can't take it anymore. I start crying everytime they raise their voices and scream and I don't know how to get away from it. I live here, they're my brothers, and I feel guilty that I cry whenever they scream because that's just how they are

@squidooo I'm sorry to hear that you're going through such a challenging situation. It's completely understandable that living in a loud and overstimulating environment, especially with frequent yelling and screaming, can be overwhelming. Here are a few suggestions that might help you cope with overstimulation and manage your emotional well-being:

1. **Create a Quiet Space:**
   - Designate a specific area in your home where you can retreat to when you need a break. Make it comfortable and quiet, with calming elements like soft lighting or soothing music.

2. **Use Noise-Canceling Headphones:**
   - Invest in noise-canceling headphones to help reduce the impact of loud noises. This can create a more peaceful environment for yourself, even in the midst of a noisy household.

3. **Communicate Your Needs:**
   - Have an open and honest conversation with your brothers about your sensitivity to loud noises. They may not be aware of how it affects you, and explaining your feelings can lead to better understanding.

4. **Establish Boundaries:**
   - Set boundaries with your brothers regarding noise levels, especially during times when you need quiet. This could include specific hours when you'd appreciate a quieter environment.

5. **Practice Relaxation Techniques:**
   - Incorporate relaxation techniques into your daily routine, such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, or yoga. These practices can help you manage stress and anxiety.

6. **Seek Support:**
   - Talk to someone you trust about your feelings, whether it's a friend, family member, or a mental health professional. Sharing your experiences can provide emotional support.

7. **Explore Sensory-Friendly Tools:**
   - Consider using sensory-friendly tools or toys that can help regulate your sensory experiences. These might include stress balls, fidget spinners, or other items that bring comfort.

8. **Create a Schedule:**
   - Establish a daily schedule that includes dedicated downtime for yourself. Having predictable periods of quiet and relaxation can be beneficial.

9. **Consider Professional Help:**
   - If your emotional well-being continues to be impacted, it may be helpful to seek guidance from a mental health professional. They can provide coping strategies tailored to your specific situation.

Remember, it's okay to prioritize your well-being and seek the support you need. Living in a loud environment can be challenging, but finding strategies to manage overstimulation can make a significant difference in your daily life.
