Meltdown in college class

Currently taking a bath post long long meltdown today. I had to miss an appointment this morning because I left my keys in my girlfriend's car, and it was the breaking point after a hard few weeks. I kept it together long enough to get to a class this afternoon but my brain felt like it was locked up and I really struggled to get through in in-class assignment. It was all stuff I knew but I just couldn't make it work.

Once I started crying I couldn't stop. I was so embarrassed. It's a senior class and the professor kept coming over and trying to get me to get the right answer. She kept trying to get me say answers on the spot and my brain just wouldn't work. I wanted to run out and I knew everyone could see me crying. I was the last out and I didn't finish. I just turned it what I had and cried in my car.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Any advice on what I could say to the professor?

Thanks

@DesertFungi

Hello, I hope today things are feeling a little easier for you after some rest and self care.

It's very difficult when situations like this happen as there's very little we can do to prevent it once it's happening, and when it's happening it can feel impossible to communicate that with others.

Being honest about the situation to the professor may help them understand, and possibly allow you some accommodations. Usually if the school knows the situation, they should provide some kind of support, although I know it doesn't always work the same in each school.

If talking to them in person feels too overwhelming, you could always write it down so they could read it when you're there, or send them an email.
