A couple of questions...
Hi everyone, I haven't been diagnosed as bipolar yet, but it is one of a few possibilities that are being explored.
I have recently experienced a very long depressive state, which culminated in sui*cidal thoughts. I now all of sudden find myself in a very high energy state. I cannot say that I am happy, but it feels as if nothing really bothers me. My past traumas seem irrelevant, I feel like I could do whatever I want and succeed. I have realised I often have moments that may last a few weeks when I get obsessed over something, spend a lot of money over it, and then just drop it. Sometimes the emotional rollercoaster is more intense, and I switch from sadness to happiness in a matter of hours only. Does this resonates with anyone of you? My psychiatrist is considering ADHD as well.
When I am depressed, I forget that I can experience high moments. When I am high, I can't make sense of my previous sadness.
I also had blood tests a few days ago, and both my cortisol and acth levels are extremely low. Does this mean anything to you?
Thank you...
@admaiorasemper Based on what little I know, and on the people I know who have been diagnosed and successfully treated, I would agree with you. Your emotional rollercoaster does seem typical of bipolar disorder. One person I know would switch very quickly in the way you describe (before treatment, that is).
I Googled cortisol and acth very briefly, and I got the impression low cortisol can be associated with bipolar disorder, and low cortisol causes low acth, but I haven't heard of this connection before, not even from the people I know who do have bipolar disorder.
