When reading through group discussions on here and other resources on signs and symptoms of bipolar or borderline personality disorder I feel that I may or may not have it. Don’t want to self analyze based on some accurate or inaccurate information. What is the process for finding out if one actually has it. Do you have to go to a doctor and tell them and they run some tests or do you go to a psychological counselor/therapist?

Yes, you should consult a psychiatrist, who will give you an evaluation (mostly psychological interview) to see what your potential symptoms are and if you might have a mental health condition. Before you meet with them, you might try completing a free online screening such as this one: https://screening.mhanational.org/screening-tools/bipolar/. This is just so you can start thinking and have things to bring up when you meet with your psychiatrist.
