I am sure we have all witnessed in society or pop culture, someone stating another person is "Bipolar". It is often referenced in conversation, when someone may just be having a bad day. This enforces the stigma of Bipolar, but education can help to alleviate it :)

Misconceptions:

1. Bipolar means mood swings, like everyone gets .

- The frequency and traits of emotions that someone with bipolar has, is very different from a typical mood swing.

2. For people who suffer from Bipolar, all of their moods are associated with their condition.

- One part of the person, does not control all actions .

3. Mania is productive .

- Mania in a low form can be productive, however, as it progresses the mania can get out of control and lead to dangerous situations.

4. There is only one type of Bipolar.

- There are four identified types: Bipolar 1, Bipolar 2 , Cyclothymia and Bipolar not otherwise specified.
