Hi, I’m in need of some advice

So I was dating this guy for a few weeks and things got to be too much with his life and we did not have the best communication. So I made the decision for us to break up even though we still have feelings for each other so he can focus on what he needs to focus on. He said he still only wants to be with me but he understands why I think we should break up. Only now I’m regretting that decision because I think if we just worked on our relationship a bit more then we could’ve made it work. Also a little backstory that’s important, he’s bipolar. When we broke up he said that it’s usually hard for him to make relationships work because of this. My question though is, if we got back together what could I do to better understand his illness? If we did get back together I would want to understand the way his mind works to the best of my ability so that we could make the relationship work. Because I really want to make the relationship work. We were falling in love with each other when we broke up and still have the same feelings for him now and I believe he does as well. Thank you in advance, I really appreciate any help anyone can give me.

@Itsjonow

Hi! I hope you are doing well. It sounds like you are in a really tough situation right now, but it seems like the two of you both want to make it work! I think one thing that's really important is to educate yourself about bipolar disorder and how you can best support him. I think you should also talk to him about how you can support him as well. He knows best of course! I have attached a few resources about bipolar disorder that might be helpful for you! I hope everything works out for you two! ❤️

My wife tries to help me, but her help usually does more harm than good. It's hard. There where times when we wouldn't speak for a week or two at a time. (I'm depressed for two weeks, happy two weeks) she sometimes would guilt me, if I was suicidal she would guilt me about it. I have a room in our house, she knows that if Im in that room I'm upset/ depressed. She sometimes highjacks my coping skills which we fight over. (She takes a baking project away and bakes the cookies or pie for me and says "there you have a pie are you happy now?" She isn't capable of understanding that it's not about HAVING a pie, it's the ACTION of baking it.) Let him cope. The best thing she could do for me is to leave me alone, and be willing to listen.
