Manic vs “Normal”
Newly diagnosed Bipolar II. I’m having a hard time telling the difference in a manic mood and a “normal” mood. I can obviously tell when I’m depressed and thankfully, my new medication has brought me out of that dark hole. I haven’t had my follow up with my psychiatrist yet, so I’m just looking for help.
@forcefulPark9285 Bipolar II disorder means your mood is never manic, but you are sometimes hypomanic.
Some experts consider that bipolar II (with hypomania) is completely different from bipolar I (with mania). This seems to be the official view, currently. Some experts consider that hypomania is just a milder form of mania. However, this may be an outdated way of thinking about it.
Different people experience hypomania in different ways, and you can easily find some descriptions if you search the Internet. For example, here's the first one I found: The Essential Guide to Recognizing Hypomania
