Possible wrong thread?
Hi there, Im new to 7cups so Im not sure Im even posting this in the right place.
All my life Ive had depression and anxiety. Ive had spouts of moments that were written off to being ADHD or something of that sort, however recently Ive began thinking that I might actually be bipolar. My dad is bipolar and my sister is schizoaffective so this type of thing runs in my family. I mentioned this to my sister and she said that shes mentioned to me before that she thinks I might be.
Is it possible to mistake anxiety for hypomania? Im not sure what to do. I see my psychiatrist next Saturday and Im afraid I might be bipolar. I dont know what to do or what to think. Thoughts? General advice?
Thank you in advance
I am not an expert, but the impression I have is that anxiety feels bad while hypomania feels good. For that reason I'd be surprised if anyone mistook one for the other.
Another impression I have is that the people I know who have bipolar disorder seem to be able to manage it pretty well with the help of medication. If it's not obvious whether you're bipolar or not, then I suppose it's not extremely severe in your case, and so it seems likely that if that's your eventual diagnosis you will also be able to manage it pretty well with the help of medication.
I hope you and your psychiatrist will be able to clarify things on Saturday, and make a plan of action.

I dont know if this is the right place because I am not sure I have bipolar or bpd. There is one time of the day - during evenings that I feel particularly distressed. Its like I feel the silence. I hear sounds from my building complex and I it triggers memories from my past. Memories of a time I had bigger dreams. Dreams I have resolved not to pursue. So in the present painful memories. The feeling is really overwhelming and I find there is not much I can do. Does this sound like a mood problem? Is it part of Bipolar or something else. Also my dad had a mood problem though we didnt diagnose anything because he wasnt willing. Hope to hear from you
7 Cups is not the right place to get a diagnosis. You would need to consult with a professional for that.
When you write, "it triggers memories from my past" it sounds like there were events in your past that you have not fully recovered from, and maybe you have PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), but I am not an expert. My understanding is that PTSD and other difficulties caused by past events can usually be treated successfully by a suitable therapist.
If you would like to discuss your memories and feelings more in more detail in private, feel free to message me.
