Question on bipolar and odd
Is bipolar and oppositional defiance disorder similar in children? Like for an example are kids who grow up to have bipolar actually were diagnosed with odd when they were children? Just wondering! Thank you<3
@magicalOcean594 Similar, yes, to some extent, according to the official manual (DSM-5-TR):
Depressive and bipolar disorders often involve negative affect and irritability. As a result, a diagnosis of oppositional defiant disorder should not be made if the symptoms occur exclusively during the course of a mood disorder.
Growing up to have bipolar? No, the manual doesn't mention that:
Oppositional defiant disorder…conveys risk for the development of anxiety disorders and major depressive disorder…
However, these diagnostic labels are not absolute, professionals often disagree about them, and individual people don't always fit neatly into the categories.
