What is hypomania at all?

Do you also struggle to recognize your symptoms when you are in a hypomanic state? I'm suspected to have Bipolar Type II but I'm not diagnosed yet and honestly I'm not sure about this. I know I have constant mood swings and a hypomanic episode sounds more like an improvement in depressive symptoms to me right now. There are some periods of time I feel more anxious without a reason too but idk how related this is to Bipolar Disorder if I actually have it.
