Bipolar Advantaje: #1 Do what the preacher tells not what the preacher does!
Hi my brave Polar bears!!
I wanted to share an important tidbit that I find very fascinating!
We usually have so much to share, so many lessons learnt and so much wisdom to impart. But we always stop ourselves as we have not perfected our own advice.
It’s ok not be perfect! It’s ok to make mistakes. Forgive yourself it’s a powerful thing you can do.
Share your experience and let people benefit from it. Even though you may not be actively applying that advice in your life.
I’m not a big believer in “Practice what you preach”. Don’t get me wrong, we all should definitely strive to do that. But more importantly, we need to know that even if we fail, what we know by our folly could be used by others to their advantage!
The following routine always has helped me battle my lows and depression poles.
First thing in the morning- Write down -pen to paper- 3 things you are grateful for. It’s not that difficult- waking up alive is definitely 1.
Write down what you are looking forward to do in the day
For instance: I want to login to work and just read my mails . I will reply to my msgs. I will take a shower. I will step out of my house for 10 mins today.
Write down what could be challenging to deal with.
For instance: Talking to my friends/colleagues could be challenging. Getting out of the house could be challenging. Logging in to work could be challenging.
How can I deal with those challenges, or should I ignore them for today
Be kind to yourself and be realistic. The goal is to take one more step towards betterment compared to yesterday. Be better compared to what you were yesterday even if it just a small tiny step.
And if you are not able to deal with things, it’s ok to put them off. But you have already done what you need to for the start of the day.
Be kind to yourself and keep believing in the process. Stick to it and see the results.
Please share your experiences and also if you tried this technique. Eager to hear back from you All!

"Practice what you preach" can be difficult if you are emotionally "up" one day, and can barely get out of bed the next. But, you are right, being bipolar doesn't mean that you don't have a wealth of information and support to offer others.
When others challenge us by calling attention to our sometimes limited ability to practice what we preach, there are a couple of good responses. You could say, you're right, I'm not practicing what I preach right now, but when I'm feeling okay, I can do it. You could also say, you're right, I'm having difficulty putting these ideas into practice, but I have seen them work for others, therefore I've set putting them into practice as my goal.

You are absolutely right. There is no harm in accepting our shortcomings in executing our ideas and advices. We need to be honest about it. We are humans at the end of the day and to err is human. So we need to find it in us to forgive ourselves and keep moving forward with hope of doing better tomorrow

When I went through one of the paths it always kept coming back to a question that if you are a friend talking to yourself right now. What would you tell yourself?
I always found this really helpful as I had to give myself my own advice. Your post just reminded me of that.
