...See more Hello my Polar bears!! We all face so many issues when we go through our highs and lows. And we are all here. We have made it through several emotional turmoils and relationship issues, job issues, money issues. All are so different from each other and so tough to deal with. Congratulate yourself for just surviving all this. Pat yourself on your Back!! I would want to understand from all of you what is the most challenging issue you had to deal with because of your bipolar disorder. For me it is when I had to face my wife after a manic episode of hedonistic activities! I feel such shame and anger on myself. I feel guilty and my self esteem gets totally crushed. It takes a long time to recover from it. I would love to hear from all of you what is the most difficult and challenging part you Had to deal with because of your mental illness!

Power through your lows

...See more Hello my dear Polar bears, Don’t you want to make it through your low periods, your depression cycles, anxiety pangs quickly. Unfortunately, these periods take time and it is that way for a reason. We need to understand the concept of amplitude. The higher your highs the lower your lows. So the more time you spend having fun and energetic activities during your manic episodes, equally intense your lows are going to be. Equanimity- is something you need to understand. We all need to embrace the lows and give your body enough rest for it to bounce back Let the disease run its course! Let it happen as this too will pass. When you find the energy finally slowly build up and move up from the lows. Things to keep in mind: * Rest well, let the lows run its course * Remember that it’s a phase and it will pass * Stack up on energy rich food and pay attention to what you eat. * Remember that all your thoughts are not your own, they are grayed out version of your thoughts. Don’t take them seriously. * If your mind tells you to commit something that is on the lines hurting yourself, immediately talk to someone and get help you need. * When you finally get the energy then you focus on getting better and move towards the positives of life.

Validating your thoughts during the lows

...See more Hello my polar bears!! It’s been a while since I posted. This time I wanted to talk to you all about the thoughts that come to your mind during the lows. Usually when we are anxious or depressed, our mind is literally hijacked and the thoughts and feelings we experience are not us. We all have faced these thoughts and the constant mind chatter that goes on. We go down the spiral of “What ifs” and “I Don’t’s “. These times are tough and we need a fool proof strategy to get out of this. Here’s what I do when I find myself in those anxious or worrying spirals caused by depression: * Try to control your physiology by getting it into a state of calm and peace: I know it’s a tough thing to do. But hey!, we got to give it a try. Try to do a breathing exercise. Step 1. Take a long breath in! Step 2. Hold the breath and take another sharp breath in. Step 3. Release through your mouth Do this breathing exercise for about 10 rounds. Indicating your body that you are fine. * The next step is one by one noting down the thoughts that come up. Understanding your thoughts and feelings are important. Write them down and see what are all the things that is actually causing you this distress. Anything and everything that comes up just blindly write them down. * Now with a rational mind, think of your friend or loved one coming to you with these thoughts and what would you tell them. Validate the thoughts, see which thoughts are phantom and see what are real. Ask yourself the following questions: 1. Is there any chance these thoughts would become true. 2. Are these thoughts actually real. 3. Is there something that I can do to address these thought or feelings. Asking yourself this question gives you one of the answers for a key cause of anxiety- Not doing something you think you must do. 4. Make a list of actions that you can take. 5. Give it a time line by when you will do it and stick with it. * The next step is a tough one - commit to seeing this process done over and over again every time you feel overwhelmed!! This discipline is needed in order to escape the *** you are in. The main issue is the anxiety and depression, though causing you to go through ***, is a familiar feeling. So your mind would prefer that over anything new, even if you are trying to get out of the *** you have created for yourself. So you need the will to get better to be strong. Let me know how it goes and please comment so that people can take a leaf from your experience and try to better their approach. Always keep fighting my Polar warriors! Loads of love, strength and honor! Your Bi-Polar guide!

...See more Hello my dear Polar bears!! Today I want to bring this topic up for your consideration. In my last post, I spoke about how you can hone into your manic episode and make the best out of it. This post let us focus on the lows that come with BPD While suffering the lows we are basically crippled and not in a position to do much and I know this can be challenging! I found the following very helpful for me: * Allow yourself to go through the lows and sadness as your body needs time to recover from the manic episodes if you have had it. Or else Depression is just a sign that your body needs to tap out for a while and is taking your mind down with it. * There is no harm if you can’t get around to doing some tasks that you have planned. Pulling out of a social meet planned, not able to complete all tasks on your to-do list. These things are ok. You are not doing your best now, so forgive yourself and don’t hold yourself to account for such big goals * Take small baby steps - Have a shower, go outside for a while even if it’s just 5 mins, try and talk to a friend- force yourself even if you feel you don’t have anything to talk about. * Believe that this phase too shall pass. Nothing is permanent and this feeling will pass and you just need to be a bit patient. * DO NOT BUY INTO ANYTHING THAT YOUR MIND TELLS YOU TO DO BASED ON YOUR FEELINGS. A depressed mind always gives you the worst case scenario. Do not believe its lies. Convince yourself that you won’t act on anything that your mind tells you As it’s bluffing. * Try to meditate even if you fail just go through a guided meditation on YouTube for inner peace. * Journal. I can’t tell you enough the advantages of journaling. It validates your thoughts. This is meta cognition - you think about your thoughts and then write them down. Have a conversation with yourself as you are the most interesting person you know. I hope these steps will help you all. Please comment down below, what other steps do you Take that gives you comfort during the low phases of your BPD. March on Warriors!!

Bipolar Advantaje: #1 Do what the preacher tells not what the preacher does!

...See more Hi my brave Polar bears!! I wanted to share an important tidbit that I find very fascinating! We usually have so much to share, so many lessons learnt and so much wisdom to impart. But we always stop ourselves as we have not perfected our own advice. It’s ok not be perfect! It’s ok to make mistakes. Forgive yourself it’s a powerful thing you can do. Share your experience and let people benefit from it. Even though you may not be actively applying that advice in your life. I’m not a big believer in “Practice what you preach”. Don’t get me wrong, we all should definitely strive to do that. But more importantly, we need to know that even if we fail, what we know by our folly could be used by others to their advantage! The following routine always has helped me battle my lows and depression poles. * First thing in the morning- Write down -pen to paper- 3 things you are grateful for. It’s not that difficult- waking up alive is definitely 1. * Write down what you are looking forward to do in the day For instance: I want to login to work and just read my mails . I will reply to my msgs. I will take a shower. I will step out of my house for 10 mins today. * Write down what could be challenging to deal with. For instance: Talking to my friends/colleagues could be challenging. Getting out of the house could be challenging. Logging in to work could be challenging. How can I deal with those challenges, or should I ignore them for today Be kind to yourself and be realistic. The goal is to take one more step towards betterment compared to yesterday. Be better compared to what you were yesterday even if it just a small tiny step. And if you are not able to deal with things, it’s ok to put them off. But you have already done what you need to for the start of the day. Be kind to yourself and keep believing in the process. Stick to it and see the results. Please share your experiences and also if you tried this technique. Eager to hear back from you All!

...See more Hi fellow Polars!! I wanted to share my experience with bipolar for almost 15 years now and how I have been able to deal with it. I feel that bipolar disorder gives you an advantage when you are in the manic stage - if along you know how to harness your energy to do the right things. During your lows your body just needs a break so that you can bounce back up! Don’t overanalyse anything during this phase. It’s just a phase and it will pass. You need to just hang in there with it. let’s share how we have used some of our symptoms to our advantage!
