Investigation for bipolar

Hi all.

I've just had an assessment by my community mental health team for potentially having bipolar (I have a close family member, potentially 2, who have it so i know the chances are increased). I've been told that theyre taking the assessment to a table discussion and then a letter will come in the post for me with a plan on what will happen next.

Is this normal? As the referral and assessment has happened so fast, I'm not entirely sure on the process so, I would be extremely grateful for any advice/ insight you may have on this.

Thanks in advance

@warmhearted1503

As someone who's been diagnosed with certain mental health disorders, I've never heard of a community group diagnosis through discussion. Could you maybe try verifying the credentials of these people? Only a professional could make the diagnosis, usually in the form of a test having you rate certain behaviors and symptoms. And usually, you would know your results right then. I recommend checking their credentials or going through a diagnosis somewhere else. All the best!
