I think I’m experiencing psychosis
Hello everyone. I am so terrified, frankly. I’m not even sure if it’s really psychosis I’m experiencing but it definitely feels like it. I moved into my first apartment with my best friend who has her boyfriend over pretty much every single day. For the last two months I’ve been sleeping very poorly because I’m hearing loud sex. When I get videos no one else hears it but me. I had my mom stay with me over the weekend and she said she was hearing my neighbors tv but not sex. Last night I began hearing these noises but they were so much louder and sounded exactly like my best friend and her boyfriend. It *** me off because it was 12 when i began hearing it and I heard it until I passed out around 3:30am. At 2am I knocked on her door and asked them to quiet down while also taking videos that I would listen back to and hear things in them. I texted her around 4 because it hadn’t gotten any quieter and then this morning she told me it wasn’t them. I relistened to the videos I took from last night and they’re completely empty, whatever I thought I was hearing in those videos last night were completely gone. I feel awful because I’ve just been bothering my roommate for weeks bc everytime I hear moaning it sounds like it’s coming from her room. I completely believe her though when she tells me it isn’t them but I just can’t understand why I’m hearing these things that obviously aren’t actually there. My theory is that maybe I take too much benedryl at night. Last night I took six normal benedryl pills and two strong ones. The reason I take so many is because I’ve been using them for so long my tolerance has gotten too good for the normal dose to do anything to me. Can benedryl cause auditory hallucinations? I’m tired of hearing things that aren’t there and everyone around me is tired of hearing about it.

Hello Daraling;
If nobody has welcomed you yet, Welcome to 7 Cups!
It takes great courage to open yourself. You are appreciated.
Not being able to trust your senses, that is horrible. I am sorry to hear this. You have every right to feel as you do. You are acknowledged with your feelings. It is ok to feel that way right now.
I remember as a child being terrified when it was time to go to bed. I hated it! Because as soon as I would go to bed, I would hear someone near breathing and it was terrifying. I would say something to my parents and they would pacify me without hearing me. Eventually they took me to an ENT. The Doctor had found hardened wax deep in my ear canal. It was causing the sound I was hearing.
I would recommend talking with a doctor about this. I am by no means a doctor but it could be something as simple as my experience.

According to this article yes you can hallucinate from it at levels that are potentially lethal.
