Self care during the transition of seasons.
For many of us with bipolar disorder the changing of the seasons induces different episodes. Its that time of year when summer transitions into fall which for many with any of the bipolar disorders experience troubling symptoms. Many go manic in the fall when the leaves are changing color. There are interesting theories as to the correlation between colorful leaves and mania that I will not go into here. For me personally mania can hit late May leading to a treatment resistant depression in the fall. Also, winter is beginning to crawl our way which is notorious for triggering depression in people with bipolar disorder and several other conditions as well. It could be a good idea to begin making plans and refreshing your arsenal of effective coping skills in anticipation of the potential for fall episodes leading into the winter.

I never knew the impact of this, thank you, I'm always willing to learn, to be more aware of what others are going through 💜💕
@SoulThought
you are so right. I am pretty scared of fall. Depression can hit pretty hard and fast after hypomanic summer. That's the reason I joined here. It can be hard to see what is happening because of the suddenness. Many depressive episodes in the fall. Feeling very yuck.☹️
Last fall I could feel it coming on. Not wanting to get out of bed, things being bleak, body feeling weird, sort of lost. I joined a online dbt skills class. That got me out of it. Like it seems 7 cups can.
This year I am as ready as I know how to be. I ordered a light box, I have vitamin d and magnism, keeping a sleep routine, ect. And probably most importantly reached out here.
Thanks so much for bringing this up.
@SkillfullMeans, I hope that with your new resources, this fall will be a better one. And it sounds like a good routine, especially your sleep hygiene. I got a light therapy lamp a few years ago and really like it. I'm happy you mentioned it because sometimes I forget I have it. This is an excellent community for support. I am delighted that you joined. If you need someone to talk to, please feel free to message me anytime.
