Newbie Here - BP 2
Hi everyone. I’m new to this app and new to a lot of things happening in my life as of recently. I’m 25 and I was recently diagnosed with bipolar type 2 after experiencing a pretty significant hypomanic episode, which was followed by the most intense depression I have ever experienced. I was already on the books to meet with a new therapist and treatment team (appointments made when I was experiencing my elevated mood) to address my struggles with an eating disorder and severe panic attacks. My family members noticed my behavior during my hypomanic episode and while in my depressive mood I did a lot of googling (warning! not good for anxiety) and saw myself in many of the symptoms of bipolar type 2. I was diagnosed in 2015 with depression, PTSD, and anxiety. I believe I was misdiagnosed, which I hear is common. I never took any medication prior to two weeks ago. I started meds for the first time and at first, I was skeptical. I never wanted to take meds when I was first prescribed antidepressants, I always thought I should be able to do it on my own. My mood cycles have been so exhausting and depression so deep that I have decided I can’t middle through on my own anymore. So far I am feeling a lot of love and support from my partner, family, and friends. I am so grateful for that. However, I get paranoid when I talk to them sometimes because I’ve convinced myself that they all talk about me and call me crazy behind my back, and they will send me away. I don’t always think that’s true but when I do it’s quite frightening and makes it harder to talk to them about some of the “not so appealing” symptoms I’m experiencing. That’s why I’m here — I want to talk to people who get it and can help me navigate this new journey I seem to be on.
Wow I am also really new here as well - This week and just over one week into a diagnosis of Bipolar 1 - I am asp trying to find support from wide ones that are deeper in and truly understanding between one and two as I had to be hospitalized but I don’t feel outside of the two hospitalizations paranoid as I understand and am trying to be in acceptance as well as being really supported by my boyfriend and loved ones. I also feel grateful and am 54 so this is truly a shock to my system along with lots of trauma from the hospitalization and the police. Waiting for the medication 💊 Depakote to kick in - but it is super hard to read as you are writing everything on line / it’s so depressing so whomever can help goth of us newbies? Would be super grateful as a few of the listeners have had it for a while and are high functioning which is hopeful but none of them are on medication any longer - the medication piece just gives a ton of anxiety because of everything online. So now there is two of us - 🙏
