After spend 10 months in therapy, I feel I have still got nowhere. Anyone else feel this way?

@bnob007

yeah therapy can be a major let down. I've had one really good therapist in my life though, and she genuinely changed my life. I moved though, and lost her. I've been hesitant to find a new one, especially with COVID since everything will be over Zoom (groan)

Hi @bnob007, all the time. I honestly think that my life improvements all result of my big effort to know myself better, to try to understand how things are the way they are, and to let go of those questions I can’t find answers... anyway, I think therapy can be good, with the right doctor. I, myself, had changed doctors various times until I found the one I think that understands me the most. Even so, there are times when I have second thoughts. I think it’s normal to feel that way. You’re not alone. Kind regards

Hi! I am sorry you feel you have not advanced enough with therapy. As you may know already, therapy is only one of the things that will help you manage mood swings. Leading a healthy life (eating well, sleeping enough and exercise) and medication are the other two things that will contribute a lot, but everyone is different and sometimes you have to manage expectations and give yourself the time. Also, there are different types of therapy, some are more oriented towards analyzing your history, your childhood, etc while others like CBT are more focused on behaviour changes in your current life. You may be interested in looking at that as well and seeing what therapy works best for you. Hope that helps

Been in therapy about 5 weeks now and I feel a bit that way but am doing everything therapist says as why I've joined this community was one of her suggestions. She has me getting back into things and I go for a morning 4 mile walk before being to tired on the down side I'm really to lethargic to do anything much after 11.30am then it's a fight with bipolar tiredness or the tablets. Though after every session we do, we have what she calls a score on the door where she goes through scales of 1 to 10 on different things and I score higher positively than I did to start with so theirs an improvement. Yes I have only being doing it 5 weeks but I feel the things I would like from therapy I won't get unless I'm on an episode ie full of energy. So I do understand and that's not going to change and I realised that. Though it's important to take away as much as you can from the therapist and make your life as good as it can be which therapists seem to be good at. Their is certain things I really want but the reality is I wouldn't have my condition if I had them it's about making the best quality of life you can have. I did have a little cry the otherday because I have been lethagic for the past 3 months but it's important not to focus on these things. I ultimately wanted to change that and now I realise that won't change but I have found with a bit of a change of mind set writing this that theirs other positive changes like actually getting out the house by myself on my walks which is actually making a difference even though its not noticeable to me but the chart ( score on The door) proves it as I have been scoring higher positively for my mental well being! Though therapy is just part of it tablets normally play a part aswell if your on tablets and you could be trying different ones for an enhanced quality of life that's also a good option aswell as therapy if needed. I personally find tablets have a massive affect on me as for years for example I was on tablets that totally screwed up my sleep pattern now I have what I would call a regular one and that's only since changing tablets. No therapy could of helped with that. It was a simple fact the tablets wouldn't let me sleep when I wanted and they would comatose me so I was unable to wake up when wanting to. That was something I wanted to add because their are other reasons behind why things don't work as well as they can and can work better with a slightly different approach for a better quality of life

I went through therapy for 10 year. Had 5 or more different therapists in that time. I got nothing out of it. Insurance paid for it so I kept getting in hopes I would get anything. I don't understand how it works I guess. I am not going to try again.

I have never found therapy helpful. I will never “buy in” so it’ll never work. I continue to see my psychologist b/c he prescribes my meds so I have to “buy in” you know? But therapy? Nah.
