need answers
Hello everyone, I don't have a disorder but I was wondering what can this be ?
Since I was a kid I always saw numbers differently it's like an urge of doing a certain number such as 3 or 9 and each number represents something in my head , its really hard to explain but I don't know what it is .. if anybody experienced the same thing please help me out. Thank you
Hello Joury! I am not a Licensed Therapist, so I can only speak from personal experience. Have you ever read or looked into OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? There are many manifestations and it's not always as it's portrayed in the media. I have OCD and have for as long as I can remember- how you describe your experience with numbers is something I can understand.
@Joury I'm not an expert, but my first thought was that an unusual fascination with numbers (or other things) is typical of people with autism spectrum disorder. The "spectrum" part of it means that a lot of people are not noticeably disabled, but they think about some things in unusual ways.
My second thought was that what you describe is maybe like synaesthesia, which is when parts of your brain are connected in unusual ways. For example, a common form of synaesthesia is when sounds are connected to colours. Maybe your brain has unusual connections between numbers and other meanings?
An experienced psychologist might be able to tell you more.
