Finishing my Orientation

So, I had applied to a new position and a different hospital at the end of April 2025, arranged with an interview within a week of applying. Started my one-month Orientation May 7th, tomorrow (June 3rd) is my last day of Orientation and I'll officially start my part-time line on Thursday, June 5th. I had been working as a Casual for the past seven years in the first hospital, (I'm keeping my Casual status, and will be working Mon and Tues). 

After a life-changing event last summer (Grandma's sudden passing), I wanted to a brand new start. So, I decided to look for a permanent position at a different Health Authority. A part-time line, working Thursday - Sunday. Since I'm keeping my Casual position, with my pre-booked shifts to cover colleague's vacation, my Manager and I worked it out, and allowed me to keep on the Mon and Tues shifts. So, in July and August, I'll be working 6 days a week, with only Wednesdays off. 

This part-time line I'll be working in, I'm returning to it after 5 years, hence, the need of having a month of Orientation, and the hospital is much larger, as it's a Children's Hospital (the only one in the Province), as a trauma 24/7 hospital, there are many surgical instruments that I am unfamiliar with. Since the hospital I have worked at is mainly surgeries for adults, and it's not a Trauma hospital, which means, surgeries are only done Mon-Fri. I'm also getting used to taking Transit, and I will be driving on Saturdays (parking is empty on weekends), then use Transit for the other 3 days. I'm also planning to take Transit when I work the Mon/Tues shifts, as my shift starts at noon, parking is nearly impossible. I used to arrive at least an hour earlier, just to find parking, and I live only a 5 min drive away. Such a waste of time. Since I'll have a bus pass, might as well use it to work those 2 shifts as well. I registered for the incentive program, as a Healthcare Worker, we can get the bus pass with like a 50% discount, but it won't kick-in until August. 

I'm lucky to have met a great group of new coworkers and one of the Supervisors is the same age and nationality as me, I'm actually a few months older, since my birthday is in January. So, it's nice to have someone like on the same side, as 95% of the staff there are from the Philippines. But they are all very kind people.

This is definitely a good change for me.
