Missed growth opportunity
I basically just got passed up for a promotion. At my work I had a coworker who is the department manager over 2 different departments, she put in her 2 week notice earlier this week.
I have been interested in taking over one of the departments after she leaves. I already help out in that area and have gone to meetings for it.
When I mentioned it today I was basically told that they were seeing what the person they hired for the other department wanted to do and that would determine if there is an opening in the department I’m interested in or if that department will just move to a current department manager.
Essentially they want to pay one person for two jobs instead of two people.
It is a smaller company but I’m still frustrated and hurt as I’ve been at this company for a while now. I was really hoping I would get the position because it would give me more opportunities to grow and learn.
I hope that because we are entering the busy season that it will cause them to rethink it.

Have you spoken to them sharing your interest and strengths. In the world of getting a job or promotion only you have your best interest at heart. I thought my work would be enough or they would see my potential.
I found those who moved up while some were a$$ kissers.
Many were just better at marketing themselves and showing them their worth. only when I spoke up about me efforts and success in current role did I move up.

You can be proud that
A) You took initiative
B) undecided decision means a decision that won’t be rushed.
C) You understand the value you bring to that particular field and any transferable skills to others.
