Should I report to HR?
I've been apprentice in a bigger company for 2 years now. We're 13 apprentices in total.
3 of them are one of the biggest reasons as for why I don't like my job.
They've been behaving disrespectful, say sexist, sexual or bullying things, and it's at the point at which I dread work every single day when I know I need to engage with them.
I have maybe 30 screenshots from their behavior on my new phone, and made a file where I write down what they say in person.
"Jokes" about me *** off teachers or my boss to get more sick leaves and homeoffice without consequences, "jokes" about how I should engage sexually with our boss to get our office favours, or just generall mocking. Another thing is the way they frame me as the laziest person there is, cause I don't do my work the way they like or the way it helps them, even though officially I souldn't even ened to share my work.
I'm antisocial, I get shaky and hot when I need to defend myself or merely a point. Maybe it has nothing to do with that, but it's the onyl way I get it. Maybe it's also because I've been bullied as a kid, that i'm too sensitive?
Problem isy the other apprentices really like the 3 that make me dread everyday, cause with them they're light and cool, and all know their humour. I'm scared they'd all speak against me just to protect their friends.
In addition, 2 of the 3 I'm talking about already have a warning for being drunk at work and damaging a wall heavily.
I'm thinking about sensing a mail to HR to have a confidential conversation. Just to show them only parts of what's going on, and how unsafe I feel. While still telling them to keep my name out of it unless there's serious measures to keep them away from me.
Cause even though it feels unlogical, based on the things they say sometimes I'm at the point at which I cannot stop fearing they'll one day get so mad they'll hold me down, violate me and take pictures for humiliation. It's s dumb thought, but I genuinly don't feel safe with these people.
Should I tell HR about this confidentially and pray they'll get heavy consequences? In a bit switzerland company, what are realistic measures for apprentices with partislly already have warnings?
@Mika404 At times the HR team can be quite helpful and understanding and they will be able to take your case forward. However it is also possible that if they are irresponsible they may not necessarily protect your privacy well and informally it can get leaked that you were the one who raised the complaint. Considering your current nature of work and that you're an apprentice, you should perhaps schedule a check in on your performance review once and then use that as a space to be able to bring this up. If you bring it up standalone people may get defensive and start viewing your performance through a different lens. Hence it's important to bring it up on your own terms.
@Mika404
how long is this apprenticeship situation?
Is this a job you would like without these people? The thing about work situations is there is almost always someone or in your case 3 who make work hard.
Going to HR is a not always as simple as it sounds. when i have even if they said they would keep me confidential it was leaked and only had more people making my time hard.
While i encourage the documenting what is happening and maybe if you can find a trusted supervisor to confide in. if things get worse or something comes up go to HR they may ask why did you wait ? these decisions are always a roll of the dice IMO.
