i am a software developer. this is my first IT job out of college. i graduated about 2 years ago. i have been in this job for just over a year. i have been trying to study for an aws certification exam because my boss is expecting me to get certified asap and i have had to push it out two times because i wasn’t ready. i had to tell my team and it was embarrassing. now i can’t reschedule again and it is this thursday. i am still not ready. i haven’t even completed half of the course i am using to study. i know i will fail and i cannot bear the idea of telling my boss and my team. i have gone through cycles of procrastinating on tasks out of fear of failure so my team and boss are already unhappy with my performance. the annual review is coming up and depends on me getting certified and doing some other tasks i haven’t gotten to. i am so tired, sad, and scared. i don’t understand why i am so stupid. not sure how to process all this bad stuff that i know will happen. also i actually really look up to my teammates and manager, so that makes it worse. and my manager is pretty intimidating and can be very critical, which is good in some ways but it makes me extremely anxious. i am new to this forum. i read the guidelines. please let me know if i need to change or remove this post.

@ayeyaeyaaaaaaaa, thanks again. I actually passed, which was a huge surprise and a pleasant one at that. I remembered more from studying than I thought I would.

You are not stupid, quite the opposite. You are under a lot of pressure in this role and you are doing your best considering the situation. You are not alone and there are so many people going through the same thing in their life. Testing for anything especially a certification can be daunting and it sounds like it requires a lot of studying and that takes time and not easy if you are working full-time and have other commitments outside of work. Do not be embarrassed, what you are going through is common. I have really bad test anxiety. At this point, do your best and you may even surprise yourself and pass. Remember this is temporary and the suffering will pass and no matter the outcome this does not define you and what you are capable of. No matter the outcome, you will recover and bounce back.

@amiableBeach5008 I know you posted this awhile ago, but I was just wondering, if you passed your test and if your now certified. If you do not want to respond back, it is ok. No worries. I was just wondering if you passed and how you are doing. I am just a caring person, who cares a lot about people, including the people here at 7cups.

@amiableBeach5008 Thank you for sharing your situation with me. It sounds like you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed about your upcoming certification exam and meeting your job expectations. It's important to remember that struggling with a task or exam doesn't make you "stupid," and it's natural to experience fear of failure and anxiety in situations like this.

It might be helpful to break down the material you need to study into smaller, more manageable chunks, and create a study schedule for yourself. You could also try reaching out to colleagues or mentors who may have experience with the certification exam and ask for their advice or study tips.

Additionally, it might be helpful to have an open and honest conversation with your manager about your concerns and any additional support or resources that may be available to you. Remember, it's okay to ask for help when you need it.

Lastly, it's important to prioritize self-care during times of stress. This could include taking breaks, getting enough sleep, exercising, and engaging in activities that bring you joy and relaxation. Remember to be kind to yourself and acknowledge the progress you have made, rather than just focusing on the challenges ahead.
