My worst friend.
I don't have Sonic, I have Mario.
Sonic is two doors down from my house.
And I know too well the door in that house,
It closes, it locks, and I get hurt by my worst friend.
I don't want to learn to fight,
I want to sing, I want a green mohawk, and I want to play doctor.
It was the day I snapped,
I barely knew what true rage was,
But he wouldn't stop hitting me,
And I don't know what happened next.
Someone else almost had to play doctor.
No more getting locked in rooms because I want to play Sonic,
No more taking the batteries out of my toys,
No more making me rip up sentimental things from my parents,
No more making me steal candy from his sister,
No more making me jump on his dad while he's eating kebabs and rice,
No more making me fake wrong geography answers,
No more holding a cap gun to my head,
Saying, "You breathe, you die."
In fact, I started feeling like I could breathe that day.
And I saw the one time my worst friend respected me,
It was when I hurt him.
No more self-doubt,
I'll use this confidence to help others from being hurt too.
I feel like I keep bringing up the same things. There was last May when I read my abuse story out loud to a group of six women, including my therapist and five advocates for victims/survivors of sexual abuse. She asked me to do this not just for my sake (she knew I wanted to tell my story), but also for the education of the advocates, four of whom had no experience with male victims/survivors. Three of them were new, just out of college.
The other would be how I'm now facilitating a creative writing peer-to-peer support group at a local community center. It's a small thing, with one to four people attending, usually. Today there was only one person, a woman who came to the community center for the first time today. The others who usually are there didn't come.
